Image Metadata Editor Online
Edit image details in one place
Upload a JPEG, PNG or static WebP image to view and edit supported metadata. Update titles, descriptions, keywords, author details, copyright information, capture dates, camera details and GPS coordinates where the format allows, then download an updated copy.

How to edit image metadata
Choose an image, inspect its existing values and select Set or Remove only for the fields you want to change. Review the proposed edits, apply them and inspect the verified output before downloading.
Common details and advanced fields
Title, description, keywords, creator, copyright and date taken are the common controls. Advanced options contain supported camera, exposure, rights, contact and GPS fields. Unknown metadata and technical image properties are available in the read-only report.
Metadata support by image format
JPEG supports EXIF, native IPTC IIM and embedded XMP. PNG and static WebP use EXIF and embedded XMP; descriptive fields use XMP. Matching logical values may be written to more than one representation. Animated images, HEIC, TIFF, RAW and AVIF are not accepted.
Example: correct a creator and caption
Set Creator to the photographer's correct name and update Description to explain the scene. Leave Date taken and GPS on Keep to retain the original values. Review the two proposed changes before applying them.
Processing, privacy and deletion
Originals, previews, reports and edited copies are stored privately on the ImageWing server, outside public media storage. Every private endpoint checks account or browser-session ownership. Preview derivatives contain no embedded metadata.
Uploads expire 60 minutes after upload. Downloads do not extend retention. Expired files become inaccessible immediately; the server cleanup command removes expired temporary files. Delete my files cancels active work; files in use are removed when processing stops or by cleanup. Advanced presets and privacy removal actions remain in the separate specialist workflows.
Frequently asked questions
How can I view image metadata?
Upload a JPEG, PNG or static WebP image and select it in the file list. View the simple editor or open the advanced read-only viewer to search values and filter namespaces. You can export a versioned JSON report.
Can I add details when a field is missing?
Yes. Select Set for a supported field and enter the value yourself. Missing camera, date and location information is not invented.
Can I add metadata to an image that has none?
Yes. Choose Set beside a supported field, enter a value, review the proposed changes and apply them. Untouched fields remain unchanged.
Can I edit the date taken?
Yes. Enter an ISO date and time, including an offset and fractional seconds when known. An existing date without a timezone is displayed as unknown; ImageWing does not assume one.
How do I remove GPS?
Choose Remove GPS and location metadata. This removes known coordinate, timestamp and descriptive location representations, maker notes and embedded previews. Creator and rights information are retained. A file is offered only when the removal is verified.
Does metadata editing reduce image quality?
Normal edits use ExifTool on a copy without recompressing image content. Before download, ImageWing compares decoded pixels and compressed image payload, dimensions, transparency, orientation and the ICC profile.
Do all formats support the same metadata?
No. JPEG supports EXIF, native IPTC IIM and XMP. PNG and static WebP use EXIF and XMP; descriptive fields use XMP. JPEG IPTC text limits are enforced without truncation. ICC profile, orientation, dimensions and unknown tags are read only.
Does removing copyright metadata remove a watermark or change rights?
No. Embedded rights text is separate from a visible watermark. Removing embedded rights information does not change the rights associated with the image.
When are my files deleted?
Files are processed on the server in private temporary storage and become inaccessible when the configured retention expires. The server cleanup command removes expired temporary files. Use Delete my files to request removal of your uploads; active processing is cancelled and busy files are removed after it stops or during cleanup.
Can I edit a batch?
Select this image, checked images or all uploaded images explicitly. Keywords support replace, append and remove selected values; other fields support replace or fill missing. Each file is validated and verified independently. ZIP downloads contain successful verified files and an omissions report.
Does metadata prove authenticity or improve search rankings?
Metadata alone does not prove authenticity, establish copyright registration, guarantee rankings or validate provenance signatures. Editing signed metadata may invalidate signatures.
Do edits build on my previous downloaded copy?
Each new revision starts from the original upload. Include all changes you want in the current review, or upload your downloaded copy to use it as a new original.
Can I review conflicting metadata values?
The advanced report shows real namespace values, including conflicts. The simple editor uses XMP first, then JPEG IPTC IIM, then EXIF when choosing a logical value to display.
