How to update embedded XMP
Choose an image, inspect its XMP report and select the supported descriptive values to set or remove. Review the proposal and any coordinated copies, apply the change, then filter the output report to XMP to confirm the result.
Supported descriptive XMP mappings
Title, description and copyright use the default language value in Dublin Core XMP. Keywords and creator names are stored as lists. Advanced rights fields use their mapped XMP namespaces. Matching logical EXIF and JPEG IPTC values are coordinated where the registered mapping includes them; unknown raw XMP tags stay read only.
Embedded XMP in supported images
JPEG, PNG and static WebP can contain embedded XMP packets that this engine reads and writes. Standalone .xmp sidecars, RAW containers and arbitrary XMP schemas are not accepted. Existing language alternatives are retained unless you explicitly edit or remove their supported fields.
Example: update an embedded description
Set Description to a corrected account of the scene while leaving Title, Keywords and Creator on Keep. After processing, inspect XMP-dc Description in the output report. Matching mapped caption representations may also be updated.
Processing, privacy and deletion
Originals, previews, reports and edited copies are stored privately on the ImageWing server, outside public media storage. Every private endpoint checks account or browser-session ownership. Preview derivatives contain no embedded metadata.
Uploads expire 60 minutes after upload. Downloads do not extend retention. Expired files become inaccessible immediately; the server cleanup command removes expired temporary files. Delete my files cancels active work; files in use are removed when processing stops or by cleanup. Presets are stored locally in your browser and exclude sensitive values unless you explicitly include them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload a standalone XMP sidecar?
No. This page edits XMP embedded in a supported image. It does not read or write standalone .xmp files.
Will my unknown XMP tags be editable?
Unknown values can be inspected in the read-only report. Only the explicit registered logical fields are writable.
Is this restricted to XMP-only writes?
No. The shared editor coordinates matching EXIF and JPEG IPTC values where the logical mapping includes them. The review and namespace report make the actual stored representations visible.
